چکیده

Using the new 23 GHz receivers at the Very Large Array (VLA), we have detected NH3(6,6) emission (ν = 25.056025 GHz) from hot (> 150 K) molecular clouds in the central 10 pc of the Galaxy. This is the first successful detection of NH3(6,6) with the VLA. The brightest emission comes from a region interior to the “circumnuclear disk” (CND), less than 1.5 pc in projected distance from Sgr A*. This region does not show molecular emission from lower energy transitions such as NH3(1,1) and (2,2), HCN(1-0) and HCO(1-0). Line ratios of NH3(6,6) and (3,3) emission as well as NH3(6,6) line widths have peak values within 1.5 pc of Sgr A*, indicating that the gas is physically close to the nucleus. NH3(6,6) is also detected towards many features outside the CND observed in NH3(1,1), (2,2), and (3,3). These features tend to lie along ridges of gas associated with Sgr A East or the massive “molecular ridge” that connects the “20 km s−1” and “50 km s−1” giant molecular clouds (GMCs). Exploring High-Velocity NH3(6,6) Emission at the Center of our Galaxy

Using the NH3 (6,6) transition, which samples dense (∼ 10 ) molecular gas with an energy above ground of 412 K, we find hot gas at high velocities (–142 to –210 km s) associated with the central 2 pc of the Galactic center. This material may be either infalling gas due to shocks or tidal stripping, or possibly gas swept from the nuclear region. We identify two high-velocity features, which we c...

Similarity between the Molecular Loops in the Galactic Center and the Solar Chromospheric Arch Filaments

We carried out two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the Galactic gas disk to show that the dense loop-like structures discovered by the Galactic center molecular cloud survey by NANTEN 4 m telescope can be formed by the buoyant rise of magnetic loops due to the Parker instability. At the initial state, we assumed a gravitationally stratified disk consisting of the cool layer (T ∼ ...

New CO observations at the center of cooling flow in Perseus cluster [4] show a clear correlation of the molecular gas with the previously detected H-α filaments [1]. In this poster, we present high resolution multi-phase simulations of the Perseus Cluster, taking into account the AGN feedback in form of hot buoyant bubbles. These simulations show that significant amount of gas can cool far fro...

Widespread Rotationally-hot Hydronium Ion in the Galactic Interstellar Medium

We present new Herschel observations of the (6,6) and (9,9) inversion transitions of the hydronium ion toward Sagittarius B2(N) and W31C. Sensitive observations toward Sagittarius B2(N) show that the high, ∼500 K, rotational temperatures characterizing the population of the highly-excited metastable H3O + rotational levels are present over a wide range of velocities corresponding to the Sagitta...

Absorption Line Survey of H3 toward the Galactic Center Sources Ii. Eight Infrared Sources within 30 Pc of the Galactic Center

Infrared absorption lines of H3 , including the metastable R(3,3) l line, have been observed toward eight bright infrared sources associated with hot and massive stars located in and between the Galactic Center Cluster and the Quintuplet Cluster 30 pc to the east. The absorption lines with high velocity dispersion arise in the Galaxy’s Central Molecular Zone (CMZ) as well as in foreground spira...

The Supermassive Black Hole at the Galactic Center

The inner few parsecs at the Galactic Center have come under intense scrutiny in recent years, in part due to the exciting broad-band observations of this region, but also because of the growing interest from theorists motivated to study the physics of black hole accretion, magnetized gas dynamics and unusual star formation. The Galactic Center is now known to contain arguably the most compelli...
